RAPPER TARGETED AFTER NY YANKEE ALLSTAR AD RAN USING HIS PHOTO WITHOUT PERMISSION
Bronx, NY -- June 27, 2008 -- Imagine a walk to your local Bronx subway station, You swipe your unlimited metro card, wait patiently on the platform for the downtown D train while listening to your Ipod. As the train arrives, you enter the packed car and grab onto the hand rails above you.As you glance up at the various,advertisements, you notice one that sends your heartbeat racing and palms sweating. No its not an ad for antiperspirant deodorant or a reminder to say something if you see something. Its more like your looking in a mirror, An actual photo of yourself, not a model that resembles you but a picture you took years ago being used to promote the NY Yankees All-star game.
That's exactly how Bronx rapper "CHIPZ DA GENERAL" was informed of his modeling gig."It was crazy for me to walk on the D train and see a big ad with my face being used. The picture was originally to be used for a German magazine 2 ½ years ago. A friend of mine asked if I would take some pictures because they liked my jewelry. The pictures were not supposed to be used in the future for anything else, there was no photo release signed granting the photographer unlimited ownership" Now "CHIPZ DA GENERAL" has to watch out for everyone who thinks CHIPZ is a quick cash in.
Its Ironic no doubt to have people see you as the face of the Worlds most famous baseball team only to have to move from the place where they play and where you've lived because others think you have lots of money and have targeted you. Although publicity is great for this Underground Music Award Nominee, ironically nominated for ( Best Underground Mixtape) Its still a catch 22. Leaving Chipz feeling violated. and mislead.
"Chipz da General" has been in meetings with lawyers on this matter as they contact the necessary parties and sort through paperwork and contracts or lack thereof. As for his music, Chipz has vowed to incorporate this situation into a song on the importance of knowing your rights when it comes to any kind of legal agreements.
